One Dead, One Wounded in Home Invasion

Lewiston, New York – One man is dead, and another seriously wounded after 3 men forced their way into a home on the Tuscarora Reservation early Sunday morning.

According to the Lewiston Police Department and Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, 3 armed men broke into a home located on Mt. Hope Rd. at around 4:30 a.m.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene and when they arrived the found the homeowner bleeding from sever gunshot wounds. Deputies quickly administered first aid and applied a tourniquet to the victim until paramedics could arrive to transport them to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

The victim told deputies the 3 suspects had gained entry to the home, but the homeowner had exchanged shots with them, driving the home invaders away.

The suspects fled in a vehicle waiting for them outside the home and were spotted by a local patrol car. A high-speed pursuit ensued, leading officers on a long chase until the car was finally stopped on Lock Port Rd. in Wheatfield.

When deputies approached the car, they found 4 individuals. One of which was badly wounded from the gun fight with the victim and despite attempts to administer first aid, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The other 3 suspects were taken into custody.

Lewiston Police department Chief Frank Previte, and Under Sheriff Mike Filicetti say the investigation is still ongoing and there are no identities that can be released at his time. The law enforcement officials went on to say it’s also unclear if there was a pre-established relationship of some sort between the homeowner and the suspects.

There are no reports of charges filed yet against the any of the individuals involved at this point.

No home defense plan is complete without carefully considering how you will manage trauma. Combat is a dangerous endeavor and there’s a good possibility you, and/or a loved one, will be seriously injured.

Having a quality medical kit in your home might help keep you alive until medics can get on the scene to assist and transport you to the hospital.
